New Squidoo Event JJJ2

on July 16th, 2009 by Michaela

I want to introduce a new Squidoo Event. It is a new Challenge for Giants with 50 lenses and Giants with 100 lenses. Our team remains united (JJJ 2) and we are ready for a now level of fun, success, and learning.
I want to offer the same opportunity for JJJ 2 team but learning from previous challenge, I change my rule of posting. I’ll post on Sundays all the lenses we create in previous week but for better visibility I’ll do it on posts not on pages.

I am not going to comment a lot as I am part of the JJJ 2 team as a coach and in the same time I am a candidate for 100 lenses Challenge. I’ll try to do a professional job eliminating any conflict of interest and offer an equal chance of promotion for the entire team.

The sign-in is open now, please read the instructions on:
http://www.squidoo.com/jolly-judicious-jetsetters-2

The challenge is between 1st August and 30th September.

Note:

Let’s analyze what I did in the first challenge, let’s all learn from my personal mistakes.

1) When I entered to the challenge, didn’t cross my mind that was possible to win as I knew that I had a small number off lenses from the start – 50 was a cosmic number for me. Big mistake right here.  But at that point we knew that we had only one month and half.

2) I start creating 1 lens in 2-3 days. If I start correctly with the end in mind, with a durable plan, I wouldn’t get in an incredible crises mode at the end. At that point I didn’t have a plan as I didn’t trust myself to win this. This was a huge mistake.

3) As I progress, I notice that I can do it better, there are patterns which repeat them selves, I start to be more organized, I create folders in Notpad, and I start to collect the repeating patterns.  I think that was the moment that I got the bug and I started to see myself as a potential winner.

4) I know HTML, but I know that not all HTML mark-ups are accepted in Squidoo. At that point I stopped, spent ½ day looking to some HTML lenses, and made a list with what was possible to use in Squidoo, and save HTML patterns on my folders. I even create a pattern for creating lenses.

5) I was able to start creating 1 lens per day, I did it for a while but not always, from time to time, I still did 1 lens in 2 days, I complicated myself with all those Architectural lenses which was beautiful and I loved them but they were time consuming. For those I needed to spend an entire day collecting pictures, editing them, think what I wanted to say, and another day to do it. I changed the niche and it was better.

6) It was a danger to be out of ideas about lenses I wanted to create. I always had a short list of 3-5 lenses I wanted to create but miraculously, each done lens conducted me to a new idea and that list was never empty.  As in Internet marketing people give you ideas. You can use surveys or simple comment and follow the comments back and a lot of new ideas are right in front of you.  I like you not to worry about this.
Three times a subject I had on my list was done by somebody else. It is going to happen, just go forward. I don’t suggest to completely abandon the subject, but this one now become a time consuming lens which can be done later outside of challenge.  You really have to study “the competition” and do it better or put a personal touch, both can be time consuming.  Live the subject for later.

7) It was a mistake that I didn’t even know that are tools in Squidoo which can help to create lenses quickly at a level which is accepted by Squidoo, and at that point I was able to create 2-3 lenses per day. Think about Twttrstrm, zippers, co-brand and so on.

This is the story, this is how I get so tired at the end, have Mom cooking for “the kid”, and I win but with a big price. I was tired; I neglected other work, and needed 3 days just to come back to “normal”.

I think some of those mistakes can be eliminated from the start, especially if we plan with the end in mind; this is the KEY, plan with the end in mind!

This is the longest comment you will get from me until the end of September.

To your success and mine as well
Michaela

Michey, This is a concise and helpful synopsis of your experiences in the first challenge. It’s helpful because you tell it like it is… and you have a marvelous ability to quickly diagnose and then come up with a solution or plan for, I suspect, most any kind of challenge… but here it’s the Squidoo vehicle, the driver, the engine and the route to plan for arriving on time! When you combine that ability with… the adaptability to sense the need & change your direction in midstream for advantage… and the energy & tenacity to carry out the plan… Well… let’s just say I think you’d make a good field General or coach or whatever else you wanted to be. You committed to a voluminous amount of work here… and you mustered the energy and perseverance and found a way to make it happen. Congratulations! And as you and all of us look at your experience in retrospect here… your perspective will be most helpful to all of us on your team I’m sure!

Thanks! JJJ 2 is different in many ways, but I learn this from a good thinker on Internet marketing. He gave me 2 advices:
        1) “from time to time you have to stop, look back, and evaluate what you did and learn from your mistake “
        2) “the consistency in your work is very important, it will be days in which you will work 12 hours, in others 6 hours, and others in which you don’t fill working at all. In those days you work 1 hour or 30 min, but you don’t stop working and you will be amaze how much you will accomplish”

I have to confess that since I make those 2 rules part of my routine, and working etiquette, I am a different person.

Michey, Thanks for sharing your mistakes. I, too, have about 3-5 ideas for lenses going at one time and sometimes I forget to write down an idea that comes to me. So I probably could have many, many more waiting to be put to a lens. I need to keep my notebook more handy.
